Gaslamp Quarter

Today, the Gaslamp Quarter is recognized for the countless number of events including, museums, galleries and other attractions that bring families in from all over San Diego and also is a main attraction for visitors.

The recent development in Downtown, San Diego, including the Convention Center expansion and new real estate in the area has caused a change in the historical value of the Gaslamp Quarter.

The many trips we took to the Gaslamp Quarter inspired us to focus on the physical changes we noticed.

In this project, we created a podcast that plays along to photos, discussing the basic history and the major changes that stood out to us. We interviewed local workers of the Gaslamp Quarter on their opinions of the changes with new development and renovations surrounding the area, and what ways they thought it impacted the modern day Gaslamp Quarter.

Many of our images, we took at the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation and along the streets of Gaslamp Quarter, highlighting the history and victorian styled architecture that gives a glimpse into what the original style of the Gaslamp Quarter once was.

By creating this project, we hope to educate listeners on how recent development has affected the Gaslamp Quarter including the original businesses in it.
