OUR TROLLEY LINE
Undocumented: The Struggles Many Immigrants in San Diego Face
Our initial research of San Diego and San Ysidro led us to write about racial discrimination in San Diego and the struggles many immigrants face. The MTS Blue Line will soon extend all the way to La Jolla and according to SANDAG, "Some individuals feel that transit provides easy access for criminals into neighborhoods in which they would otherwise not have access".
We hope to shed light on the struggles individuals face and hope you can walk away knowing more about this problem. We made this piece by first visiting our stop and taking photographs of San Ysidro. Being physically at the San Diego/Tijuana border inspired us to write about racial discrimination and the struggles low income and immigrant families face.
Our final project is a rap song inspired by the information we found. In the song we talk about how white men historically and still today have more power. They enslaved and conquered both land and people, and people of color today are left to pick up the pieces.
