Seaport Village

Seaport Village is undeniably a popular spot for tourists and locals alike in San Diego. It assists in representing San Diego’s history that is linked to the bay. This will all change soon. Seaport Village is going to be replaced as a part of the “Seaport Redevelopment” and “Manchester Gateway” projects. It is not being renovated, but removed completely for these projects, which are estimated to be both finished in a decade.

Having a personal connection to Seaport Village, I was able to find a deeper meaning of the village’s relationship to San Diego. Through the podcast, I conveyed my own and a few Seaport Village employees’ opinions on the development plan and how it will directly affect the jobs, businesses, and San Diego’s bayside aesthetic. These voices are especially powerful because these individuals have worked there for over a decade. With these voices as well as my own, I feel I was able to communicate the personal connection that people have to the village.

Seaport Village can not be seen as just a space that needs to be “renewed”, it means more to San Diego and the people here as a whole. Not to mention, it will become a historical landmark in the next 10 years. Not everything needs to be new and improved. Sometimes we need to have areas as icons of our history and heritage as a city.
